Easy Craft Projects for Boys

Girls seem to be naturally attracted to arts and crafts, but boys are sometimes a different matter. If you're running a summer camp, holding a crafts party or just want to get your sons involved in a neat project, you may be scratching your head when it comes to craft ideas. Fortunately, there are several categories of crafts that attract boys of all ages.

Nature Crafts
Nature crafts are a good choice for boys. This allows them to go out into the wilderness and gather the materials
A great nature craft idea is "Forest Friends." These crafts are easy to make and will allow the boys to work off some of that excess energy. Take them to the park and ask them to gather leaves, twigs and pinecones.

When you return back home from the park, let the boys decorate their finds with googly eyes and puff balls. Use Gorilla Glue or another multi-purpose glue that will adhere to the natural surfaces. Make faces on the leaves and pinecones, and then attach the twigs for bodies. You can make limbs from construction paper and the boys will have nature-inspired puppets to play with for the rest of the day.

Character Crafts
Boys like creating crafts that help them pretend they are their favorite heroes and characters. Pirates are very popular these days, so any pirate-related crafts will be well received. You can provide the supplies to make a construction paper or sewn felt eye patches, depending on the age of the boys.

Every pirate needs a parrot, so there's another simple craft idea. Use old toilet paper tubes, feathers and markers so each boy can have a personal parrot sidekick. Boys will also enjoy making treasure chests from old shoeboxes and treasure maps to find their loot from paper bags and markers.

Science Crafts.
If you have an older group of boys to entertain with crafts, don't underestimate the power of science-themed crafts. These crafts are part science experiment, part craft. One example of a science themed craft is invisible writing. For this craft, you'll need a laxative tablet, one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol, cotton balls and ammonia.

Crush the tablet into a container and then add the alcohol. Have the boys use paintbrushes to create their secret messages. As the ink dries, it will disappear. To see the message, simple have them rub the pieces of paper with cotton balls soaked in ammonia. It's not the most pleasant smelling craft, but it sure is a lot of fun!

As long as you keep boys active and engaged, they'll have as much fun with crafts as girls do. Although they aren't patient enough for beaded lanyards, they have activities and interests that can engage them just as much. So before you assume that boys and crafts just don't mix, try some of these ideas.

The Star System Of Hollywood Movies

The method of creating and promoting film stars in Hollywood movies is known as the star system. Different studios would select talented actors and create roles for them, often inventing new names and even new backgrounds. Stars that went through this star system in Hollywood movies are Cary Grant, Joan Crawford and Rock Hudson. Star system of Hollywood movies puts an emphasis on the image rather than on real acting talents. However, acting, voice, and dancing form a part of the criteria.

There are rules and restrictions that these new budding actors have to follow. For instance, they are not allowed to leave the house without putting any makeup and wearing stylish clothes when it comes to female actors. On the other hand, the male actors are expected to be seen in public as gentlemen. The star system of Hollywood movies had a morality clause as well.

Just as the executives, public relations staffs, and the agents worked together with the actor to create a star character, so also they would work together to cover up the incidents or lifestyles which would prove disrespectful and that can damage or spoil the image of the actor in the eye of the public.

In the star system of Hollywood movies, performers are not identified in films due to two main reasons. One is that the stage performers were embarrassed to be seen in films. Initially, they were featured in silent films and it was considered pantomime, which is the art of conveying emotions, actions, and feelings, by gestures without speech. As one of the main skills of actors was their voice, they were afraid that appearing in films would ruin their reputation.

The other reason for the performers not being identified in films was because producers feared that actors would gain more prestige and power and the stars might demand more money. There were many incidents that have caused the star system of Hollywood movies to come into existence. Some of the main reasons can be traced out from the following incidents.

Thomas Edison and the Motion Picture Patents Company (in short the MPPC) forced the filmmakers to use their equipment and follow their rules, since they owned most of the patents of the motion picture equipment. And it is said that the MPPC did promote some actors during that time.

There was a change in the star system of Hollywood movies, and the main reason was that the public desired to know the real names of the actors. Film audiences constantly recognized a number of performers in movies that they liked. As the names of these stars was not disclosed, the audience would give them nicknames such as the Biograph Girl, Florence Lawrence, and the like.

The MPPC was gaining control over the movie industry until Carl Laemmle promoted the first film star. He was independent of the MPPC and used star promotion to fight the MPPC gaining control over the film industry. He got hold of Lawrence from Biograph and spread a rumor that she was killed in a car accident but then later combated this rumor and said she was doing fine and would be starring in the up-coming film produced by him.

Another reason that led to the establishment of the star system in Hollywood movies was the development of the film magazines that gave fans knowledge about the actors. This included the lifestyles of the actors outside their film roles. Some of the popular magazines of the time were the Motion Picture Story Magazine and Photoplay. They focused on stories of movies but later they began to focus more on the actors as it was advantageous economically. These are some of the main reasons for the introduction of

Lupus

Lupus is a chronic "autoimmune" disease in which the immune system, for unknown reasons, becomes hyperactive and attacks normal tissue, resulting in inflammation and symptoms. Lupus strikes nine women to every man, and can be very difficult to diagnose.

There are three forms of lupus. The first is cutaneous lupus, which only affects the skin. The symptoms include skin rashes, photosensitivity (where exposure to light triggers a rash), and sometimes ulcers on the inside of the nose or mouth.

Treatment of cutaneous lupus includes corticosteroid creams or ointments applied to the rash or infections into the lesions. Oral corticosteroid or antimalarial medications may also be prescribed, and sunscreen is important as well.

In addition to cutaneous lupus, there is systematic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which attacks multiple systems in the body, which can include the skin, joints, lungs, blood, blood vessels, nervous system and organs. Systematic lupus is much more difficult to diagnose, largely because it affects so many different parts of the body and because it develops slowly over time. Symptoms can include fatigue, achy or swollen joints, rashes, fever, hair loss, sores in the mouth or nose, and other conditions. These symptoms usually come and go in "flares". SLE also mimics many other diseases and conditions, and there is no single diagnostic test for it.

Physicians do use a list of 11 criteria to assist in the diagnosis of SLE. These include past medical history, laboratory tests, and current symptoms. The anti-nuclear antibody test (ANA) is used as a screening test, since 95% of people with SLE have a positive ANA. A positive ANA, however, does not prove someone has SLE, since it is also seen in a number of other illnesses and conditions. The ANA is only an indicator that points in several possible directions.

The final form of lupus is drug-induced lupus (DIL). DIL may develop after taking certain prescription medications but disappears when the drugs are discontinued. So far five medications have been shown to be associated: procqainamide and quinidine (for heart rhythm abnormalities), hydralazine (for high blood pressure) , isoniazid (for tuberculosis), and phenytoin (for seizures). Months or years of frequent medication exposure, however, are necessary to produce DIL.

Most of the symptoms of lupus are due to inflammation, therefore, treatment is aimed at reducing the inflammation. Four families of medications are used for this purpose: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen and naproxen: corticosteroids, such as prednidone, cortisone and medrol; antimalarials, which help the joint pain, skin rashes and ulcers (there is no relationship between lupus and malaria); and immunosuppressants and chemotherapy, generally reserved for persons with severe flares that affect organ function.

How to Make Your Kid Smart

Most of us are held in awe once we meet children who can be as smart as a person who is a lot older than them. We often call these children as gifted, because they are endowed with the knowledge that can be acquired by someone who is way past their years. Little does everyone know, there are ways in which parents can develop the mental or intellectual capacities of their children
We all know that we have the capacity to store information and process them in order for us to use this knowledge for a greater purpose. Charles Darwin stipulated in his theory of natural selections that animals, most especially human beings, constantly think of ways on how to outwit and outrun their predators so that they can survive. This theory, which is also known as ‘Survival of the Fittest,’ has existed for quite sometime, and it only proves to show that humans can be intelligent as they wish to be. We are all equipped with faculties which will enable us to think freely on our own, whether it comes to decision making or intellectual pursuits.

Charles Darwin’s hypothesis is a clear explanation of the heights that the human brain can reach. All parents need to do is to figure out how to harness one’s intellectual development so as the child will perform in his full potential. Starting from the conception of the child, the mother must be fully aware of her diet. Whatever the mother eats becomes quite reflective of the future potentials of the child. It helps if the mother would take in vitamins and minerals to support the child’s intellectual development.

The next thing to pay attention to is giving enough focus on child education. Some people may think that education during the early years is not that important, because a child’s parents instead can teach the children some basic fundamental skills that they need to develop. There’s nothing wrong with this as long, but however, it is advised that they should bring their child to a school specializing in early education so that he will have a good intellectual and social development. The teachers who specialize in early childhood education know what to include in their curriculum so that the intellectual development of the child well be boost up to its maximum capacity. School also gives a chance for your children to mingle with others, so that he would not be left out whenever there are some activities.

Another point is to have a home learning environment. You can help out in this by buying educational toys which your child may play with. There is a variety of toys which are concentrated on different subjects. Not only will the child learn, but they would also have fun while doing the activities.

These are just some of the ways on how to improve the intellectual development of a child. Bear in mind that there are still a lot of ways, but following these crucial steps is certainly worth the try.
